Back in 1966, Sherwood Park Baptist Church was begun on Post Road and grew steadily. About 45 years later, the name was changed to New Hope Church. In 2013 under different leadership, the name changed again to East Coast Church and the property & building was sold to go portable, meeting in downtown Melbourne and then to Quest Elementary in Viera. Leadership choices and hardship over the next 2 years proved a new direction was needed.
In the spring of 2015, True Life Church was launched with the 30 people that remained, now under new leadership with Pastor Josh Smith. We had to go forward boldly in faith and trust God to provide over time even when the financial numbers didn't add up, and we moved into and renovated our first location on Wickham Road. It was small for a church - only 3,000 sq ft - but we were able to have a place to gather without the basic food groups on the wall, and have to set up everything every weekend. We strived for integrity and newness (that's why we have our logo and colors), and focused on God's Word and community. We gradually added part time staff to invest in key ministries of our church. True Life Church stayed there across from East Florida State College for 3 years, but had outgrown our space.
We began renovations on our second location on Sarno Road in early 2018, and finally opened there that November. At over twice the space with 7,000 sq ft, it gives us plenty of room for our growing children & student ministries, as well as a comfortable worship space and welcome area. Throughout the last 5 years, we've continued to need that bold faith and focus on Jesus. True Life Church now welcomes more than 120 people every Sunday, and is a testament to God's faithfulness.
We believe that our best years are ahead of us, not behind us. The next chapters in our story haven't been written yet, but YOU are invited to be a part of it!
